לאחרונה (בחודשים האחרונים) שחררה נוקיה עדכונים למס' גדול של מכשירי סימביאן, כולם חוסמים את כל הפריצות שהיו קיימות עד היום. נכון לעכשיו לא נראה שיהיה ניתן לפרוץ אותם, אלא אם תתגלה פרצה חדשה. מאחר ולא ניתן לשחזר גרסה ישנה אתם תקועים עם סימביאן סגור. כל זאת בנוסף לעובדה שהעידכון יפרמט את המכשיר ויעשה בלגן בכרטיס הזיכרון כך שכנראה תצטרכו לפרמט גם אותו.

בניגוד לדעה הרווחת פריצה של מכשיר סימביאני אינה נועדה על מנת להתקין תוכנות פרוצות בלבד. מה גם שאת זה החסימה החדשה לא מונעת (למרות שהיא הופכת את כל התהליך לכאב ראש).

Signing .sis Symbian installer files: which programs to use and where to get a free developer certificate?

Avoid Symbian's Open Signed Online. Get a developer certificate and sign Symbian programs yourself. Most Symbian phones refuse to install "unsigned" software. Programs need to be "signed" with a digital certificate before Symbian allows you to install them on your very own Nokia or other Symbian phone. If computer programs would have to get approved by something called Windows Signed there'd be public outrage, and Microsoft would be flooded with lawsuits. But for some reason Symbian (read: Nokia) gets away with it.

Commercial Symbian software usually comes pre-signed and ready to install on your phone without further ado. But getting software signed for distribution requires a Publisher ID, which costs hundreds of dollars. For obvious reasons most authors of non-commercial software are not going to buy expensive Publisher IDs to sign their freeware.

A year ago Open Signed Online was started to cater for the creators and users of non-commercial freeware, but so far it fails miserably. Open Signed Online is still in beta testing and it shows. The procedure is unnecessarily complicated, especially if english is not your native language. It requires each and every user of unsigned freeware to upload the files to be signed, hand over their IMEI number and email address, wait until Symbian Signed emails back to them, respond to that mail, wait for another mail with a download link, and then return to the Open Signed Online site to download a signed copy of the program. Open Signed Online won't work on large files (the current limit is 4 MB), is not available in any language other than english, and its web site is unsuitable for mobile phone web browsers.

And if you want to install another program, or the same program or another phone, you'll have to suffer the same ordeal again.

Symbian Signed protects the financial interests of a few commercial software companies at the expense of all the non-commercial programmers and the millions of people that use their freeware. As long as things don't improve, make sure to avoid Symbian Signed like the plague.

Which Nokia and Samsung Symbian phones can be hacked, and is it worth to downgrade your firmware?

Set Symbian S60 free. Contrary to popular belief, hacking your Symbian phone is not just a sport for software pirates. Setting your copy of Symbian free allows you to install unsigned programs, make backups of all sorts of things without having to use the piece of Windows-only bloatware called PC Suite, customise menus and icons, switch off that annoying camera shutter sound, and much more.

But Nokia doesn't like freedom. They especially hate your freedom to control your own phone. That's why they made firmware updates that kill the Symbian hacks to take control of your phone away from you.

Note: ROMPatcher patches and other tricks designed for Nokia phones will not necessarily work on Samsung phones. Anything beyond the ability to install unsigned programs is a bonus on a hacked Samsung.

Wanna downgrade your firmware?

Downgrading your firmware requires special equipment. A Nokia Serice Point can do it for you, but they'll try to refuse. If you upgraded the firmware of your Nokia 6120 Classic to the first hackproof firmware version (6.01), you may find that the new firmware introduces all sorts of new bugs and sucks your battery dry really fast. That's a good reason to demand a downgrade to the previous version (5.11). Firmware upgrades of other phone models may bring new bugs too, and if you claim that the new firmware broke the connection between your phone and your wireless router, or if your computer won't talk to your phone over bluetooth anymore, the people at the Nokia Service Point will have to take your word for it unless they're willing to visit you at home.

גם ככה תמיד עושים גיבוי מלא לפני עדכון קושחה (מה שגם מומלץ ורשום מודגש ע"י נוקיה) אז שום דבר לא ילך לאיבוד.

אני ביצעתי גם עדכון לפני כחודש ל E65 שלי (3.0633.69.00) ולא ראיתי שום בעיות עם יישומים.

כל הפרצות הקודמות הסתמכו על אותה פרצת , שהם לא תיקנו נכונה. הפעם כנראה שזה סופי אלא אם תתגלה פרצה חדשה.

עדיכנתי את הקושחה של הN95 שלי... רק עשה לי נפלאות, ושיפר את חיי הסוללה

ולגבי כל מה שפותח, הכל עובד לי בסדר גמור.

יש לי E71, האם באמת שווה לפרוץ אותו להתחיל להתעסק?

בסה'כ אני דיי מרוצה ממנו, אין איזה משהו שחסר לי דרמטית ומנסיון קודם עם סמביאן (6600,E65)

זה לא הכי נחוץ בעולם, מצד שני הרבה זמן לא היה לי סימביאן ואולי יצאו כמה תכונות שאכן שוות את זה,

בכל אופן אשמח גם לקבל אתרי מידע ותוכן על סימביאן שכן הפורום לא כזה פעיל מבחינה סמביאנית, תודה

אבל הכל רשום בפוסט הראשון.

בגדול זה מאפשר להתקין תוכנות לא חתומות, או כאלו שהחותמות שלהן לא עדכניות, למעשה זה עוקף את כל המנגנון. בנוסף זה מאפשר גישה לכל כונן C (קבצי מערכת וכדומה) שנחוץ בשביל כל מיני טוויקים, למשל כיבוי הצליל של המצלמה.

למה שתצטרך להתקין תוכנות לא חתומות? בשביל לחתום על תוכנה צריך certificate מתאים, ונוקיה לא בדיוק מחלקים אותם בחינם, למעשה הם די יקרים, למפתחים עצמיים, ובפרט למפתחים שמשחררים תוכנות שהם freeware. זה דבר אחד לעבוד בחינם, זה משהו שונה לגמרי לשלם בשביל להפיץ freeware, אז הם משחררים גרסאות לא חתומות. כמובן שמכשיר פרוץ מאפשר התקנת תוכנות פרוצות, אבל מצד שני גם וינדוס מקורי. עם מכשיר פרוץ שום דבר לא מגביל אותך.

אגב כל העניין הזה של החתימות הוא "יחסית" חדש, לפני גרסא 9.1 הוא לא היה קיים.

קניתי שלשום את הN95 8GB המכשיר פשוט ענק.

לפני שאני עושה שטות אני רוצה לשאול כאן ולוודא.

על פניו המכשיר לא עושה אף בעיה. אני לא יודע אם יש צורך לעדכן גירסה. אשמח אם תעזרו לי ותענו על מס' שאלות:

1. איך אני בודק את גירסת הסימביאן של המכשיר? העידכון זה עידכון סימביאן או עידכון קושחה? מה זה אומר?
