To make it clear - assume I know nothing about the subject, that's close to the truth.

Today I tried to OC my computer, following guides here. Since my BIOS is not the same version as the one explained about in the guide itself, when I wanted to set some new stuff, I found out the options did not exist/were already set.

Then I saw the "Load optimized defaults" option, so I gave it a go. Didn't notice any real change in the settings, hit save & exit and was waiting for my computer to load, hopefully performing better

Going through first screen just normally, next one, and then when it said -

"Veryfiying DMI Pool Data..."

it got stuck telling me -

"DISK BOOT FAILURE"

Guessed it might have prioritized booting wrong, so I went back in the BIOS and tried setting it to boot from CDROM first, HD0 second and disabled the 3rd. Still stuck. Tried setting it too boot from the HD0 first and CDROM second, nothing.

I tried to revert it helplessly using the "Load standard defaults" and let it run, but it still gets stuck.

Before trying to OC I downloaded and installed SuperPI and ATITool. Another person was using the computer before me, don't know what that person did.

Now my question - What might've happened, and how do I solve it?

Is it possible that all my HD was erased completely, and I need to reinstall my Windows?

Which OS are you using? I assume XP?

Set the CD as your first booting device

Insert XP bootable CD and start windows installation

After install wizard finds your old windows, select install and then repair, this will fix all your booting-related problems for sure

Prepare your CD-key

This would be the error I get - even with system disk in the CDROM:

You need to configure your BIOS too boot first from your hard drive and then all other devices when the optical drive is the preferred choice.

From the message it shows that your boot device order is configured to PXE first i.e. booting from network adapter.

Try to look for "boot device order" or priority in your BIOS settings.

The correct boot sequence

Diskette

CD

Hard Drive

The Bios is smart enough to check is there is a diskette in the drive

or if there a CD in the drive

If no Diskette or CD found it wll boot from the Hard Drive

Tried that. Doesn't help.

I tried booting from HDD-0, 1, 2 and 3. Nothing still. Tried the other options in the booting menu - same crap.

Then I enabled 'HDD Boot Sprite' so it asks me which HDD to boot from. It was empty... as if I had no HDD connected to the computer. I doubt it's the connections, since it stopped working within one restart of the system and not 'cause of a kick or something...

Are you getting the PXE error now ?

Your Hard Drive is gone. Either it is dead or

the default bios setting does not support its

connecting method

Can you locate it in your Bios, and if you can where and how it is connected ?

I am still getting the same PXE error. I also tried booting with PXL and I didn't get the error, it just would get stuck at the same phase telling me "DISK BOOT FAILURE...".

How could my HDD go away? Possible virus?

My BIOS supported it until I tried loading "optimized defaults", since which I haven't seen it respond.

How do I locate my HDDs in the BIOS? Haven't noticed anything that has to deal with it.

Simple solution would be getting a new HDD? meaning, I lose everything on it unless I contact some 'data restore' department?

I wasn't the one who bought the computer and I didn't mess around with it too much so I don't really know how to check what motherboard it is. Possible to do it via BIOS? Same for the hard disk, don't know how to check that.

And in case it is the 'MSI' thing, how do I reconfigurate it?

Try changing the SATA connection to something else ,try playing with the options ther ,if that doesnt help i suggest to seek profesional help ,or doing the one thing u dont wanna do =Format to the hardrive
