    לגביי ה Perpendicular Recording Technology זו שיטה לדחוס יותר מידע על הדיסק, שינוי באופן שהראש קורא/כותב בגדול. הדבר הזה הופיע עקב מיצוי השיטה הקודמת, שבה היתה בעיה ליצור דיסקים בעלי צפיפות גבוהה יותר. (להגדיל את הנפח של הדיסקים) כמובן, שצפיפות גבוהה יותר, משמעותה שה bandwidth גבוה יותר. אבל היסטוריונית תמיד זה היה ככה כל פעם שדחסו את צפיפות הנתונים על הדיסק.
