המקום הולך ואוזל לי, ואני שוקל לקנות הארד דיסק חדש.

אני חושב לקנות אחד של 120GB (כך שבסך הכל יהיה לי 200 GB).

חשבתי אולי לעשות איתו RAI Dיחד עם הדיסק קשיח הנוכחי שלי של 80BG.

מה אני צריך בשביל לעשות RAID?

הבנתי שצריך איזה שהוא בקר? אני לא רוצה להוציא עליו הרבה כסף, האם אחד זול יעשה את העבודה (אפשר המלצה?)?

    RAID 0 יתן שיפור בביצועים, אבל צריך 2 הרדיסקים זהים.

    אם אין לך בקר אז זה יכול להיות די יקר ולא שווה להשקיע בזה

    אפשר דרך הוינדוס לעשות RAID אבל זה לוקח כוח מהמעבד.

    אפשר לעשות RAID עם 80+120 אבל מקבלים רק 160 ג'יגה (2x80), זה מיותר.

    there's many types of RAID total of about 12, each for different perpose, some for performance and some for backup. basicly there's

    RAID 0 - meant for performance it writes half the data to one HD and the other half to the second HD, and thous you get one virtual HD that is the size of the smallest HDs of the two and at theoreticly twice as fast as the slowest HD.

    RAID 1 (Mirrored) - meant for backup, the same data is writen to both HD and if one fails there's the second of that HD.

    RAID 5 - meant for backup, can't remember how it works but it allows a full backup with out lossing 100% of the mirrored HD space

    RAID (don't know the number - spanned) - doubles the HD space the physicals HD shows up as one HD the size of the sum size of the physical HDs.

    don't know the other RAID types I'm sure looking it up in google will give you enough info. anadtech had a good artical about a year ago about RAID controllers aprox.30 pages.

    btw, there's hardware and software RAID and software emulation of RAID. software RAID is still hardware but the RAID calculations are done by the CPU whereas in hardware RAID the calculations are done by a dedicated processor, and RAID emulation is done by the OS (win 2k, XP,2k3 only), however the OS can't be installed on a HD that is part of a RAID, which makes it kinda useless.
