I am working in a network with a proxy

server , I configured netscape to use

the proxy when i need access to the internet and

that's working fine.

My question is :

How do I configure linux in general to have

access to the net (for mail client for example)

using the proxy server instead of direct connect ?

Let's say that I can't even use the automatic

update feature becasue LINUX is unable to detect

the internet .

(I am using R.H 73)

    האמת שאין פשוט מזה, כנראה לרדהאט יש משהו ב GUI לעשות את זה...

    אם אין אתה פשוט קובע שתי משתני סביבה.

     export http_proxy="machine.company.com:1234"
    export ftp_proxy="$HTTP_PROXY"

    לא יודע אם זה נכון בהפצת REDHAT כי יש לי SUSE אבל אני חושב שזה יהיה אותו דבר.

    אז מה שאתה צריך לעשות זה למצוא את הקובץ bashrc. שאמור להימצא בספרייה home/yourusername/

    או שתוסיף לקבוץ etc/sysconfig/i18n/ תנסה קודם את זה כי יש לך REDHAT ורוב הסיכויים שתצתרך להוסיף לקובץ הזה.

    שכחתי להוסיף שכשאתה מוסיף את השורות הללו לקבוץ אתה מוסיף אותם ככה:

    "http_proxy="machine.company.com:1234

    "ftp_proxy="$HTTP_PROXY

    נו זה בדיוק מה שאמרתי רק יפעל אוטומטית כול פעם.

    הערך של http_proxy אמור להיות הip של הפרוקסי אחרי זה נקודותיים והפורט שהפרוקסי רץ עליו.

    (אם יש לך את שם של הפורסי מוגדר ב hosts אתה יכול לכתוב את השם במקום הip)
