יש לי 3 כוננים c d f ויש לי דיסק קשיח של 250 ג'יגה, בסי 46 ג'יגה בדי 93 ג'יגה ובאף גם 93 ג'יגה ביחד זה 232 ג'יגה, עכשיו השאלה לאן נעלמו שאר ה18 ג'יגה?

    נפח הדיסק הקשיח שהיצרן מכריז עליו (לדוגמה: 250 ג'יגה בייט) נמדד ביחידות עשרוניות לעומת זאת המחשב מודד כל דבר ביחידות בינאריות

    ולכן תמיד המחשב יראה פחות נפח ממה שהיצרן הכריז עליו.

    ככל שנפח הדיסק הקשיח המוכרז ע"י היצרן גדול יותר כך "האיבוד" יהיה גדול יותר.

    (יש לי דיסק שאמור להיות 300 ג'יגה בייט אך בפועל "חסר" 27 ג'יגה)
