About the - P5LD2 board, Read what one guy wrote as a review about it:

This board is great but the only thing is that you better have a regular 775 chip and not a pentium D. The bios doesn't support the new processors so you have to have a regular 775 to boot up with, then update the bios and then you can use the newer processors. It made my life hell but I learned something. Asus makes great boards but I can't believe that they think that everyone should carry an extra 775.

Unfortunately, I have to buy components here, and buying from the USA is unrealistic because of taxes etc.

So, lets say Ill be buying a D8xx or D9xx CPU. Any suggestions (remember, I do not overclock) and advice? There are small price differences between the D820 and D915What do you think I should get?

Also, I looked up the ASUS P5LD2, and Im confused, there are several versions (deluxe, VM, etc.). What are the differences? What does Rev 2.01G mean?

How much memory should I get? (BTW, is it possible to put one 512MB stick and another 1GB stick together?)

My computer is giving me problems, so Ill see if I can wait until C2D prices drop. In case I have to get a new system soon, can you still give me some advice on D8xx or D9xx CPUs?

Also, I didnt understand what you meant about the memory sticks:

1. Is it better to have two sticks than one dual-channel?

2. If Im using two (not dual) sticks, will mixing a 512MB and a 1G be a potential problem?

3. Do you think 2x512MB will be enough for me?

Also, do you think the deluxe motherboard is not so useful for me?

Good news!

My computer is OK. Here is a good story: 2 months ago, I bought another 512MB memory for my computer. I bought it at the same store I bought the computer 2.5 years ago, and made sure they give me a compatible stick. It turns out that the stick they sold me was 2.6V, where I needed a 2.5V (all the other specs were a match).

The computer worked fine for the 2 months, although I didnt see a lot of improvement in performance. A few days ago I installed a new game and the XP started crashing. I re-installed my whole system (I have a ghost, so its 5 minutes) and it kept crashing. For 3 days I didnt know what to do

Yesterday, I ran a memtest andthe new stick was giving errors! I changed to a correct stick and the computer is OK! Ill wait for a few days to see if the system is still stable.

So you see the lesson here, boys and girls!

Anyway,

It looks like I can wait until the C2D prices drop, and get a much upgraded system

So, THANKS for all you guys who helped, especially LiorP23 (ATA TOTACH). I learned a lot of new stuff from these last few days of talking with you!
