My OS is Win2K. The option renew with the IPCONFIG command does not seem to work.

Can someone please explain the reason

This is what I did. The "release" option works and I get the command prompt back

When I try to use the "renew" option I never get the prompt back and the PC stays without an IP address until the automatic mechnism of the OS assigns an IP address.

The DHCP mechanism does not seem to be working except for the time the PC boots up.

Any suggestions?

it seems your dhcp is not working well, the renew should succeed.

read the helpfile and search for the ipconfig command, maybe its a syntax problem

I'm using the right syntax for the command (ipconfig /renew) the release option as well as the other options work fine as expected. W

There are no problems with other PC's in the network which are runing Win9x. I can release and renew their IP with no problem.

I'm connected to the ADSL with a modified Alcatel modem and behind it a Firewall/Router for connection sharing and access blocking for one of the PC's.

check your dhcp server log to see any transportation between it and the problematic client.

check firewall logs as well

maybe you need to add a rule for this particular machine
