UMAX, a company widely known for its scanner technology, has evidently decided that providing free drivers for product support is too much trouble. Attemping to download any drivers from the company leads to a page that informs the customer they must pay an $8.95 fee to have a program called VistaScan mailed to them. Once they have VistaScan, it will be possible (in most cases) to update their drivers.

This is ridiculous. One of the things the Internet has done best is to give end-users of technology quick and easy access to a variety of tools, from drivers to user support. Charging for driver download not only has the potential to REALLY tick off customers, but it also leaves people waiting for days or psosibly even weeks for driver software to arrive in the mail.
