    Thinkpad היא הסדרה העסקית של לנובו, וכוללת גם כמה דגמים חצי עסקיים. ה-G550 שייך לסדרה הצרכנית של לנובו. ההבדלים בין סדרה עסקית לצרכנית מתבטאים בדר"כ באיכות בניה (לטובת הסדרות העסקיות), עיצוב מאופק מול צבעוני/ נוצץ יותר ותכונות ייעודייות (כפתורי מדיה ויציאות וידאו דיגיטליות למול תמיכה בתחנת עגינה, מסך מאט והצפנה של הדיסק הקשיח לדוגמא).
