Hello everybody,

I need a new laptop and I hope you can offer some advice.

The main requirement is that Im running mathematical applications that need lots of CPU+RAM power, but not too much demanding on graphics, although good graphics capabilities would be nice. This is the main thing.

I also need the laptop to be portable, but I dont want a small screen so I want a screen of 12-14 inches, but lightweight. This is important

I need the laptop to have a good battery time at least 4 hours while working hard.

I want the keyboard to be good and a good touchpad.

I dont care about design/looks, and I can afford an expensive laptop, although it would be nice to save a little money

I can buy this laptop in Israel or outside, so its OK if you suggest models that are not in Israel.

חיי סוללה, כרטיס מסך חזק ומחשב קטן פשוט לא הולכים יחד. אז כנראה תצטרך להתפשר קצת על כרטיס המסך. מעבר לכך, יש מחשבים מאוד חביבים, אבל חשוב שתגדיר תקציב (לא כמה אתה "יכול" להוציא, אלא כמה אתה "רוצה").

I can live with a weaker graphics card, the CPU+RAM are what's most important

Well, the $3000 just means that I have unlimited budget...it's for work... The T400s looks really nice (although I hate those pointer knobs). Any other suggestions?

The Thinkpad T400s and the Latitude E4300 both look really good, and with a 8GB RAM they both cost about $3000.

Any ideas about comparing the two?

Yes, you are probably right about the 8GB upgrade.

Considering Ill get 4GB (with the option of upgrading to 8GB in the future), which one is better?

Also, how easy/cheap would it be to upgrade to 8GB later?

Which laptop has 2 slots and which has only 1 slot? Do they come with 1 stick of 4GB and a spare slot (so I can buy another stick of 4GB), or do they come with 2 sticks of 2GB (in which case I have to replace the sticks and buy 2 x 4GB)???

אני התרשמתי יותר מהלנובו, שנשמע תפור עליך אם באמת אין לך צורך בכרטיס מסך יותר טוב מהמובנה.

I live in Canada, and my computer here at work doesn't have Hebrew on the keyboard...and working with a virtual keyboard is a nightmare... Sorry guys...but I'm still a loyal HWZone.co.IL
