חברת Bioware, ענקית משחקי התפקידים ( Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KotOR וMass Effect), וחברת LucasArts

הכריזו באופן רשמי על המשחק החדש שלהן - משחק תפקידים המוני בעולם של "מלחמת הכוכבים", שייקרא The Old Republic.

המשחק החדש, יתרחש כ- 300 שנה אחרי העלילה של המשחק Knights of the Old Republic ובערך 3500 שנה לפני הסרטים בסדרת מלחמת הכוכבים. בתקופה שבה מדובר, לאבירי הסית' יש אימפריה משלהם, ששרדה את התקפותיהם של אבירי הג'די ואף חזרה לחזק את כוחה. בהתקפת-פתע הצליחו הסית' לכבוש מספר כוכבים חשובים ואפילו להשתלט על בירת האימפריה, קורוסנט. הג'די נסוגים לכוכב-הבית שלהם, טיית'ון, ומושגת הפסקת-אש לא רגועה בין הצדדים.

המשחק יאפשר לנו לבחור בין שני הצדדים הנצים, נוכל לבחור אם להצתרף לצד של הרפובליקה או לצד של האימפרית ה SITH ויאפשר לנו לגלם מגון סוגי שחקנים, חילי רפובליקה, מבריחים, צידי ראשים ועוד... מלבד זאת כצפוי נוכל לנהל קרבות עם חרב-אור ולרתום את "הכוח" לעזרתנו כג'די או הSith.

עוד הדגישו המפתחים שבניגוד לרוב המשחקים בז'אנר, The Old Republic יתנהג כמו משחקים אחרים של Bioware ויכלול גם סיפור עלילה משמעותי ומושקע וגם הרבה נקודות במהלך המשחק שבהם תצטרכו לעמוד בפני החלטה משמעותית, שתשפיע באופן מהותי על חוויית-המשחק שלכם. למשל, תצטרכו להחליט איך לנהוג בדמויות המשניות שיצטרפו אליכם, ומפעם לפעם ירצו לדבר איתכם ואולי אפילו ישברו את הכלים ופשוט יעזבו אתכם לנפשכם.

אנשי Bioware מבהירים שמדובר בפרוייקט ענק, גדול פי כמה מכל מה שהם עבדו עליו עד היום. למעשה, הם אומרים, כמות התוכן שתכלל במשחק גדולה יותר מזו של כל המשחקים שנוצרו על ידי Bioware אי פעם, ביחד. 12 תסריטאים עובדים במשרה מלאה רק על כתיבת העלילות למשימות השונות במשחק.

וכבר עכשיו סה"כ כל התוכן יכול להכיל את כל התוכן של KOTOR עשר פעמים או את סדרת סופרנוס או למלא 10 ספרים...

קצת על הרקע של המשחק: The settings

The Galactic Republic stood for generations as a bastion of peace in a galaxy of warring star systems. Protected by its stalwart Jedi guardians, the Republic held the greatest hope for the progress of civilization and galactic unity.

Deep in unknown space, however, a mighty Sith Empire was forged, led by dark Sith Lords who dreamt of galactic domination and vengeance against their ancient Jedi enemies. After centuries of preparation, the time came for the Sith to make their return.

With a massive fleet and an awe-inspiring army of fearless troops, the Sith Emperor launched a surprise assault, quickly capturing dozens of worlds in the Outer Rim, and sparking a war unlike any other in the galaxys history.

From the frozen wastes of Ilum to the desert plains of Dathomir, violent battles killed untold millions. Despite its avowed neutrality, surface structures on the water-covered world of Manaan were completely destroyed, forcing the Selkath to retreat to their ocean underworld. Other star systems fared worsesome destroyed, others left uninhabitable. The carnage concluded with the Sith Empire sacking the Republic's capital planet of Coruscant and forcing the Republic Senate into the controversial Treaty of Coruscant.

In the years since the treaty, fear and uncertainty have gripped the galaxy, enabling the Sith Emperor to pursue his own mysterious purposes while the Republic has made efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and adjust military priorities to the new galactic landscape.

Now, tensions between the Republic and the Empire are running high, and a series of border skirmishes and proxy wars have broken out, even on planets as historically peaceful as Alderaan. The uneasy truce established by the Treaty of Coruscant is quickly tearing apart at the seams, and a return to all-out war has begun in all but official terms.

A new generation of heroes, both light and dark, emerges to face the difficulties of these chaotic times, and fight for the fate of the galaxy in this most desperate age.

אני תמיד חשבתי שאפילו בתקופה הכי טובה של הרפובליקה היה מקסימום אלף ג'דיים , אז תחשבו שפה יהיה לכם איזו עיר ענקית( כמו IronForge בWOW )

רק היא תהיה מפוצצת ב ג'דיים עם איזה מיליון איש , אני חושב שזה יהיה די גרוע.

זה ליפני הרפובליקה, זה בתקופה שרק התחילו לגלות את ה"force" והם חילקו יפה את הקלאסים בין הג'דיים לסית', זה BioWare הם לא הולכים לאכזב...

התאכזבתי..

זה מזכיר לי בערך כל MMORPG שאני מכיר, רק עם חרבות אור ובלאסטרים(ד"א, אני לא אומר שחרבות אור הן לא TOTALLY AWSOME, פשוט משחק רשת שרוצה לחדש- אמור לכלול יותר מזה).

הייתי רוצה לראות אותם מכינים משחק, אפילו לא MMO, שהלייטסייבר שלך יחתוך מתכת או רגל של אדם כמו שסכין חמה חותכת חמאה- משחק עם פיזיקה טוב. בכל MMO צריך להביא למפלצת 30+ מכות בשביל להרוג אותה, בכל משחק צריך לבצע קווסטים משעממים שאומרים לך "לך תהרוג 30 מפלצות ביצה ואני אתן לך מתנה" או "תביא לי 100 עגבניות בשביל מכונית".. המפתחים (אני מדבר עכשיו על MMO) לא מבינים שהבסיס של המחקים שלהם הוא זהה כמעט לחלוטין?!

זאת בדיוק הסיבה למה אני מאוכזב, KOTOR היה משחק מדהים, הדמויות יחודיות העלילה שלמרות שהיא הייתה די ליניארית מעניינת

העולמות והגרפיקה ואפילו מיני משחקים שלא כמו היום כפיים, קיצר משחק מדהים.

ואז ציפתי לSTAR WARS FORCE UNLEASHED שהיה אמור להיות מדהים ומי יודע אולי זה כן אבל זה לא יצא לPC...
