לדוגמה בגולף, כוח המכה באמת נשלט ע"י כוח התזוזה במציאות, מה שדי הפתיע אותי.

יחסית לזיוף בגרוש זה מרשים למדי.

It's buyer beware for consumers who purchase knockoff electronics

MONTREAL - They're called EPods, PolyStations, Good Boys, HiPhones and Viis.

The names and designs of these knockoff electronics are close to the real thing and they're a lot cheaper.

But obviously they're not Apple's iPod music player or iPhone, nor Sony's PlayStation or Nintendo's Wii and Game Boy game consoles. Often they don't work exactly like the real thing - if at all.

Just like faux Gucci bags, fake Rolex watches and copied designer duds, knockoff electronic products are in stores and are being hawked on the Internet.

"It's not like a handbag that you can look at and say, 'Yeah, it looks like a Gucci - it has the same patterns, same stitching and looks decent,"' said technology columnist Marc Saltzman.

"With electronics, you actually have to use it in order to find out how well it works," he said.

A cousin to the knockoff, counterfeit electronics are also out there with name-brand labels on fake products.

The Consumers' Association of Canada says knockoffs and counterfeit products are illegal to buy and sell but the law isn't always enforced, especially when they're purchased.

Saltzman said he believes online auction site EBay is doing a good job of weeding out fakes.

But if you buy a fake electronics product and know it likely won't last, then you aren't going to be disappointed, said Saltzman, who writes for numerous publications, including Rogers UR Magazine and the MSN website.

But if consumers expect more, they're out of luck, he said.

"You don't have a lot of recourse if something goes wrong. The old adage is true: You get what you pay for."

That's certainly the case.

A knockoff PolyStation 2 game console, purchased for $40 at a local electronics store, wouldn't work when hooked up to a television. The TV screen turned either white or a mix of scrambled pink and blue lines and dots.

The PolyStation box said the game console included 14 games but none could be found on the console.

The real thing, PlayStation 2, which has been out on the market for eight years, costs about $130.

Neither the packaging nor the plastic PolyStation game console indicated where the knockoff was made.

At least one in 10 information technology products sold in North America could be counterfeit, says the U.S.-based Alliance for Gray Market and Counterfeit Abatement organization.

"China appears to, and continues to, top the list of sources of non-genuine products," said Ram Manchi, the organization's president.

"China has one of the largest manufacturing bases and many global high-tech and electronics companies have contracts manufacturing in China," Manchi said in an e-mail.

Manchi said these products are made with inferior components and aren't subject to quality controls.

"If the product is offered at a significantly lower price than the average price of the (real) product, the source could be questionable."

He said "non-genuine" products hurt the financial health of the brand-name companies and their ability to invest in future innovation, while contaminating the market with substandard devices.

An EPod can cost as little as $20 while an imitation iPhone can be bought for between $150 and $250. The actual iPhone still isn't sold in Canada.

Technology expert Elias Makos said some knockoffs are of decent quality and purchasers generally know why they're buying them.

"When you see that you're not paying very much for them, they can be great little products, said Makos, also a technical instructor with Concordia University's journalism program.

"I think to a certain extent, sometimes consumers want these items because they are cheap," Makos said.

He noted there were iPhone knockoffs from China out several months before Apple released the product last June that were based on pictures and designs that Apple released.

"The quickness with which they can get these knockoffs out is just staggering,"Makos said.

But a lot of these "shady" products have been made in bad conditions without regard to the environment, he added.

"People who buy knockoffs aren't interested in recycling."

Makos has little sympathy for consumers who try to get cheap electronics, such as EPods, rather than the real thing.

"If it doesn't look like it and the wheel is off centre and the screen is tilted a bit, you deserve it," he said of its eventual inevitable breakdown.

He advises consumers to do their homework and use the Internet as a research tool.

Bruce Cran, president of the Consumers' Association of Canada, agreed. He said his organization is always getting calls and e-mails about fake iPods and other electronics.

"I don't have a great deal of sympathy for people who buy the Vii and God knows what - the things that are obvious knockoffs," he said.

אתם בכלל לא יכולים להתחיל להבין כמה מכשירי POWER-GAMES מכרתי בארה"ב בקריסמיס לפני שנתיים כשעבדתי שם..

ה POWER-GAMES הוא בעצם מגאסון של שנות ה90 שעבר "מתיחת פנים" והוכנס לשלטים שהם זיוף שלטים של N64.. היו שם משהו כמו 50 משחקים מובנים ועוד איזה אופציה להכניס לו קלטת מגאסון למשחקים נוספים (כאילו שהיה בכלל אפשר להשיג אותן..) היו שם מריו , קונטרה ועוד שלל משחקי נוסטלגיה..

כשהגעתי לארה"ב ובן דוד שלי הראה לי שזה מה שאני הולך למכור בחודשים הקרובים ..פשוט צחקתי. למה שמישהו נורמאלי ייקנה את החרא הזה ?? שאריות אשפה של איזה מפעל בסין לפני שנים שנארזו במארז מצ'וקמק.. ומה אני אגיד לכם - טעיתי. ובגדול.

האמריקאים עטו עלינו כמו ילדים בני 6 שאומרים להם שהם יכולים לקחת כל מה שהם רוצים ב TOYS R US בחינם.. ועוד במחיר אסטרונומי של ONLY 79.99$..

חיסלו לנו את הסחורה על העגלה בקצב כל כך מהר שהיינו צריכים אספקה קבועה מהיבואן על בסיס דו שבועי.

המצב כל כך הרתיח מנהלים בחברות הרציניות כמו נינטנדו ואחרות עד שהם התלוננו ל F.B.I והוציאו על המוצר הזה צו איסור מכירה בטענה שזה זיוף של ה N64 שלהם ושגונבים להם זכויות יוצרים על המשחקים.. (ובצדק). הוציאו לנו צווים שדרשו מאיתנו להעיף את המוצר שעונה לשם POWER-GAMES מהמדפים במיידי אפילו צירפו צילום של האריזה מכל הזויות ממש כמו במערבונים עם הכיתוב WANTED.

אבל ישראלים הם ישראלים עד הסוף ואף אחד , גם לא ה F.B.I , יהרוס לנו את הכסף הגדול של קריסמיס.. אז מה עושים ?? מחליפים את האריזה של המוצר לאריזה שונה ומחליפים את השם ל POWER-PLAYER . עכשיו הכל כשר לעוד שבועיים לפחות עד שיוציאו גם לזה צו איסור. אבל, עוד שבועיים כבר ייגמר קריסמיס ואני כבר יהיה על המטוס בדרך חזרה לארץ סופר את הדולרים.. אמריקאים נאיבים..

ואתם עוד אומרים אעלק מי קונה את זה.. אז תתפלאו.. יש כאלו ובאלפים.
