Super HTPC for 4 AV Zones, $3000

I'm intrested in building a Super HTPC that would be able to play Audio and Video to 3-4 different home theaters at the same time, the chasis is to be somethig like the Zalman HD160XT (this is a UK link the cost is $549

http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=3426&cat=654&page=1), and the video output needs to be HDMI or component (best is both) the computer would act as a dedicated video audio server for the house and will be connected to a video switcher along with the cable boxes DVD players etc.

to sum it up, $3000 (you can go for more) SUPER quite, 4 Video out 4 Audio out, strong processor, and a 2TB RAID aray.

One Lat thing, All video outputs need to support 720P/1080P resolution

אני בכלל לא יודע אם אפשר לייצר 4 OUTPUTS נפרדים של אודיו. בכל מקרה אף פעם לא נתקלתי בזה. למיטב הבנתי הקנפיגורציה הנפוצה למה שאתה רוצה לייצר זה שרת הקלטות ומדיה עם תחנות עבודה נפרדות וזולות משמעותית לכל עמדה.

I know you can get more thn 1 audio output from the PC sincen there is an Israeli company that specializes in audio servers for hotels and stores that uses this solution, (www.ycd.net) so I'm sure I can put 4 cards and run for instances of VLC or Winamp and have each of them output to a different sound card.

My main concern is, can 2 8800GTS cards (640MB each) support 4 HD displays? and if we assume I'm right and we use the Zalmen chasis, how would you build this system?

I'm sure about the audio thing I've seen it done in other products as well.So how would you build this? it is to be strong enough to have 4 1080P displays and 4 audio outs

about recordings, it's not something I will need, maybe copying DVD's as ISO files to the computer or transcode them to Divx.

8800GTS לא פורש H264. אם כבר אז כדאי ללכת כל 8600GTS למרות ששוב אין לי מושג איך הוא יתפקד עם שני OUTPUTS שונים.

I work in designing home automation system and HiFi Systems, when it comes to how to distribute the signal around the house and how to control the computer from multiple locations I can handle it my self.

I'm here since you know a lot more than me about configuring computers, and what I'm trying to know is how to build a computer that will be strong enough to handle what we discussed.

can you help me with setting up the best cooling solutions, memory, hard drives (I will use the WD 500GB RE2- 4 of them) if you know what motherboard is best for this kind of setup etc.

I'm also checking out the link you gave me, but I'll apreciate any help you can offer with the setup.

כרגע הכרטיס הכי חזק שפורס H264 זה ה 8600GTS. כדאי משהו עם קרור פסיבי אבל שתומך ב HDCP.

אני מאמין שאם תחכה קצת תתחיל לראות יותר כרטיסים כאלה עם HDMI. תזהר כרגע עם סדרת ה 2900 של AMD-ATI שלכאורה באים עם מחברי DMI ואפילו על חלק מהקופסאות כתוב שפורסים H264 מה שנתגלה כלא נכון (שלא לדבר על הרעש שלהם).

ספק שקט וחזק כדוגמת Corsair HX 520.

4 גיגה זכרון. לא יקר היום. שים לב ש XP לא תומך בגירסת ה 32 ביט ביותר מ 3 גיגה.

הייתי שמח לשמוע איך מתגברים על הבעיות של השליטה, הסאונד וה DVI.

The link I sent was from the UK, but I'm bying it in the US.

As for the control issues, we will write our own dedicated drivers, we are actually debating about what software to use to drive it all (VLC looks like the leading option) we will try and build our own Media center like interface in VB or C sharp.

when you talk abouut how to handle the control and DVI issues, keep n mind that I'm using an industrial control processor made for home automation puposes, and I comunicate to the media center using TCP/IP protocols, as for the DVI, I will try to get a card that has component out, since I'm distributing it through long distances. if not, I'll use DVI to HDMI convertion and than use a gefen 4X4 HDMI switcher and HDMI over CAT-5E extenders www.gefen.com

אני ממש בטוח. נראה לי שלא. הרי אינך יוצר CLONE. אתה רוצה לפרוש את התצוגה על 2 מסכים ב FULL HD כשהרזולוציה המקסימלית של הכרטיסים היא 2560X1600 או שאני מפספס משהו? מה שבטוח שעבור H264 תשתמש בהרבה פחות CPU מאשר עם כרטיס שלא פורס H264 כמו שבטח ראית בלינקים. אפשר לחפש על לוח עם 4 כרטיסי מסך, אבל זה יכול להוות בעיה עם המארז.

עדיין, נראה לי הרבה יותר הגיוני ליצור שרת מדיה והורדות ותחנות עבודה שיונקות ממנו. זה יחסוך הרבה עבודה, יפתור הרבה בעיות, כמו גם יאפשר לך הרבה יותר גמישות (למשל הוספת תחנה חדשה, או שינוי תחנה בודדת למטרת משחקים כבדים).
