  2. QuakeCon 2011: Skyrim Collector’s Edition Announced!!!

    For months many of you have asked for details on whether or not there will be Collector’s Edition for . At the end of a rousing QuakeCon presentation, game director Todd Howard confirmed its existence.

    The limited collector’s edition for The Elder Scrolls® V: Skyrim™ will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and Games for and can be pre-ordered now through participating retailers in North America, Europe and Australia. Like the regular release of the game, the Collector’s Edition will be available on 11.11.11

    In addition to including the highly-anticipated game, this premium version of The Elder Scrolls V: also includes:

    • Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.
    • ‘The Art of Skyrim’ Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8” x 12 1/8” coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style.

  3. Actually, Carmack is well known for being a -first developer.

    From what I can tell, Rage's emphasis is on the single player champion with MP being treated mostly as an added feature. And if you don't need a leader board, stats or anything like that – why have a dedicated server? It’s better to just play with your friends/clan.

    And yes, I agree, Rage is looking like the 2011 GOTY.

    John Carmack took the stage for one of his legendary Quakecon talks. OVer the course of about 2.5 hours, Carmack touched on Rage ("...the most enjoyable game I've ever done,") the platform ("...[i have] too many other things on my plate to make development a personal crusade,") and how patents are causing a headache for everyone ("...everyone's infringing and everybody knows it. It's a parasitic cost for the computer industry.")

    Other exciting tidbits:

    • There is no plan or team in place for a future Quake title.
    • The id Tech 4 engine (Doom 3, Quake 4, Brink) will be come open source "later this year."
    • Quake Live is a "business failure" - it loses money for id Software - but they don't plan on shutting it down anytime soon.
    • Doom 4: Will probably run at 30 Hz for single player, and 60 Hz for MP. Most of the Rage dev team will migrate to 4 once the game ships later this year.
    • Rage 2 is going to happen expected, assuming Rage 1 is a success.
    • Rage will not have dedicated servers, and there will be no Eyefinity support at launch.
    • id Software currently has no Mac or strategy.

    • There are hacks in all current graphic cards to check if you're playing early Quake-engine games. "There are archeological reasons why PC drivers have the stuff that they do."
    • There are the far-out ideas for future engines like "tracing and splatting an voxels; non-polygonal stuff, but that's not what we're working on now."
    • "We're just using the PC as a muscular console at this point."
    • "I spend a lot of time smiling and being amazed at how much power we have in [modern PCs]."
    • Carmack wishes he had time make a test app for an 2600.

    אגב למי שלא יודע - הקטע של לשלוח את הקוד דרך הפקס הגיע מבקשה של של סוני Square Enix ממפתח שוודי של משחק FF שבוטל לשלוח להם בפקס את הביינרי של קבצי האודיו :facepalm:

  10. בקיצור בניגוד ל שחיפשו לשפר ולהקל, EA רק רוצים כסף.

    Actually, more than money they want control. ("I am assuming direct control")

    And if they could do away with physical copies all together, they would.

    Having their own store with exclusive games gives them the ability (power) to manipulate prices, (attempt to) limit piracy, and most importantly entice people to buy more games by using their service.

    Basically it's the same idea behind Amazon; they lost a little money on popular products but gained so much customer loyalty that they covered their losses within a very short time.

    Only that here, EA is trying to gain loyalty AND screw their loyal customers, all at the same time.

    תעשיית המשחקים בישראל לא מתה, היא פשוט לא קיימת.

    להוציא משחק AAA נדרשת כיום השקעה של לפחות 10 מליון דולר לכל שנת , ומעט מאוד משחקים מחזירים את הכסף למשקיעים.

    אין משקיעים = אין תעשיה = אין משחקים ישראלים בשוק.

    דבר שני, יש פרטים על הפאץ החדש שיכלול גם DLC חדש

    If you’ve been enjoying CD Projekt’s The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings, we’ve got a bit of good and bad news for you this morning. The game’s official website was recently updated to deliver the details of the forthcoming Patch 1.3, but unfortunately, there is still no ETA on its release. According to this PDF changelog, the patch will enable the game to support 4:3, 5:4, and 16:10 aspect rations, incorporate item storage so players can store items from their inventory at inns, a “Junk” panel to provide greater clarity in item classification, an “Extras” menu option to view in-game animated sequences outside the game, a new Quickload option for quicker access to your game saves plus much more.

    The biggest addition however will come in the form of some new free DLC entitled “A Sackful of Fluff“. The content is described as a new quest in Chapter 2 of the game that initiated by visiting with Elthon, an eccentric inhabitant of a solitary hut near the quarry outside of Vergan. Not much else is said about the quest other than the fact that it will prove most rewarding to “those who demonstrate patience.”

    Well, it looks like all fans of The Witcher 2 will have to demonstrate some patience until we get further details on the release date for the patch. Of course, we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
