ואם מישהו יוכל להגיד לי מה שאר היתרונות שלה על פני מערכת ההפעלה XP אני אשמח לשמוע.

There are a lot of Linux distrobutions, some are easier to install (like Fedora Core, Mandrake) and some are relatively harder (Debian, Gentoo etc). It all depends how much effort you're willing to make, Linux has similarities to windows but the basis is different, you will need to read guides and be willing to learn and adapt.

As for speed and stability, Linux is quite faster in multitasking than Windows XP is and if it's maintained and installed properly it's also very stable (no phenomenon of one program crashing and taking the rest of the system with it).

Before you go and install Linux (just installing and learning is nice on it's own) you need to understand that you will not be able to run most games/programs you use on Windows. you'll have to get specific builds for Linux or use an emulator (like Wine which is complex to configure or WineX (only for games) which isn't free).

Basically there's a substitute for almost any program you can find in Windows even if not identical in a lot of cases there are better alternatives.

The main thing in Linux is freedom, everything is open for you to change and mess around with, there's tons of room for customizing and you can basically design a system fit for your needs in every manner, also everything is free (in 99 % of the cases) and is often updated by the Open Source community.

For a beginner I suggest starting with Mandrake which is what I used first, it's very friendly and simple to install and can be a good starting point to learn from, later on if you feel a need you can advance to a more "complex" hand's on distro like Gentoo or Debian.

I also suggest you read some guides and look @ the forums at www.whatsup.co.il and www.penguin.org.il.

If you're a gamer on any level Linux won't be a good substitute for Windows but you can install both operating system on the computer.

One more thing you need to understand about Linux that there are two ways to install additional programs:

1. Similar to regular installations, Using a precompiled binary file like an RPM file which in most cases are available via automatic program retrival systems or can be downloaded specifically for your operating system ( like urmpi in mandrake, apt-get in Debian, Portage in Gentoo).

2. Compiling programs on your own from source files, this is a more complex option and will require you to have all of the dependencies and development packages installed, however most updated releases are usually available on source first and on precompiled files later (since source can be compiled on any system and is universal).

Another important concept is the root user (similar to admin in windows but much more powerful), a root user is created on every system and has full access to everything while regular users are forbidden from entering specific folders or change certain files, this is meant to protect the system and provide control to one main user, also the root is handy for security since if you're exposed to a threat a malicious user won't be able to do more than local damage without root access.

I dont think i will install this OS , cause you said that i cannot run most games/programs that i am runing right now on the XP.

Its a pretty big problem cause i am playing a lot and my programs are very important to me so i think i will stay with the regular, nice, friendly XP Home Edition.

Well, for most regular programs like mIRC, ICQ, messanger, imaging programs and all other internet programs you have excellent alternatives in Linux (if you want anything specific I have lots of recommendations).

As for gaming, you can always take a shot at configuring Wine (Windows Emulator) using guides which will allow you to run windows based programs or get WineX which has built in D3D support and will allow you to run almost every game (especially popular games).

I installed Linux on my computer for learning value, knowledge is always a good thing and getting acquainted with a new environment is always good. After a couple of weeks of working with it and reading guides the system is running excellently.

עכשיו לינוקס היא אכן מאוד יציבה ומהירה אני כרגע פועל על לינוקס היא קלה להתקנה זה תלוי בהפצה לינוקס היא לא ווינדוס אין חברה אחד שמוכרת לך אותה פה יש כמה חברות שמפיצות אותה(ללא תשלום ברוב המקרים יש את הגרסאות של BUSSINES שעולה אבל זה רק הSUPPORT)

לינוקס עדיפה על XP מכמה סיבות:

1.בטוחה יותר-אין כמעט ווירוסים ואלא שיש לא יכולים לעשות כמעט מסיבה פשוט שנקראת שיטת המשתמש על שאומרת שרק משתמש על(בלינוקס נקרא ROOT) יכול להתקיו לשנות את המערכת כלומר משתמש הפשוט יוכל להפעיל ווירוס אבל המקסימום שהווירוס יעשה זה למחוק שיר)

בנוגע לפרוץ מחשב לינוקס זה מאוד קשה מאותה סיבות וגם מסיבה שאפשר לשנות את הקרנל כדי שיהיה שמה כמה טריקים שונים

2.יציבה יותר-היא אכן יותר יציבה לדעת כל האנשים בעולם חוץ מבילי וחבריו יש רק בעיה עם הדריברים של NVIDIA לכרטיס מסך שיש להם בעיות עם שינוי רצולוציה ויכול להתחל את שרת האיקס דומה לשאתה הורג את תהליך EXPLORER.EXE המערכת לא קורסת אלא המערכת הגרפית מאותחלת זה הדבר הכי גרוע שיכול ליהות

3.כי זה קוד פתוח-אתה לא תלוי באף אחד אף אחד לא אומר לך מאתה יכול לעשות אתה WHO DO I SAY חופשי וגם כיוון שזה קוד פתוח לא רק חברה עובדת על זה אלא אלפי כאלא ולרוב עובדות בשיתוף וחובבים עוזרים הרבה כל תוכנה קטנה אתה יכול לעשות תקיון שיהיה יותר טוב בישבילך לדוגמא אתה לא אוהב את הGUI של משהו תכתוב אחד חדש או שתשתמש בTHEME

4.קלה להתקנה-יש ויש התקנה זה הוא מונח מטעה מה זה התקנה שיהיה תיהיה פועלת או שיהיה תיהיה מוכנה לשימוש יום יום

לדוגמא מנדרייק 10(ההפצה שאני משתמש)היא מאוד קלה להתקנה כמו WINXP רק יותר יפה מערכת ההתקנה זה מאוד קל אפילו סבתא תידע איך להתקין את זה יש את ההתקנה בידייש

אבל יש את GENTOO שהיא יותר למתקדמים שרוצים לסחוט כל טיםה של ביצועים מהמערכת שלהם והיא גם המהירה ביותר מכל הפצות הלינוקס כיוון שמקמפלים כימעט כל דבר

בנוגע להכנה לשימוש יום יום מנדרייק 10 כמעט מוכנה אתה צריך להוריד דרייבר למסך לקנפג את האינטרנט וזהו כי תוכנות לסרטים(כולל כל CODEC פופולרי כבר נמצא שם) מוזקיה עריכת גרפית משחקים(קצת אבל יש את CEDEGA התקנה קלה גם מאוד)

No problem with hebrew, just a matter of personal comfort.

The problem with Cedega (formerly WineX) is the fact it costs money, not really a problem if gaming under Linux is important to you.

אני מציע לך קודם כל להשתמש בגרסת CD של לינוקס (לא מתקינה שום דבר , רצה מהCD)

זה יתן לך נקודת מבט על הלינוקס

הגרסה היא קנופיקס (על פי הזיכרון שלי)

ויש גרסת כחול-לבן כמובן , השם קוד הוא "כינרת" (אני לא זכור את השם המלא)

התחלתי להשתמש בגנו/ליונקס לפני שנה, וכבר מעל חצי שנה ששני המחשבים בבית שלי הם עם מערכת ההפעלה גנו/לינוקס, אין בהם חלונות, ואני והמשפחה שלי מאוד מרוצים. דרך אגב, היום יש יום הולדת ללינוקס, הוא נולד ברשימת דיוור של מיניקס לפני 13 שנה בדיוק.
