    ב DOS וב 9x - כן.

    ב 2000 וב XP - לא. מערכות ההפעלה האלו סורקות לבד את ההתקנים המחוברים למחשב ולמעשה עוקפות את ה BIOS. התקנים כמו דיסקים קשיחים יזוהו גם אם הם לא מוגדרים ב BIOS. לעומת זאת, התקנים שכובו ב BIOS (כמו כרטיס קול On board) לא יזוהו בשום מקרה.
