I took out the memory cards (X2) and now I can hear a continous beep.

I inserted one memory card and te PC starts booting but it is stuck. may be because it expect dua channel.

Should I try different memory cards?

try different memory modules and different slots

try removing all addin cards while omputer is disconneected and reseat power and CPU

From past experience,

Sometimes even minor things like front panel connector to the motherboard can cause such issues.

You may wish to connect minimum number of components and add 1 each step until you verify the troublesome part.
