I recently bought a new computer for myself, and now I decided to set up my old AMD 900 for my mom...

the computer consists of:

Asus K7M, AMD Athlon 900 and a 128MB SDRAM stick (along with the other sound card, VGA card and so on)

My problem is as such:

I conected everything, and installed windows, but only after i finished the installation, i realized windows is workiong really slow (winXP)

so i checked the bios and i found out that the 128MB stick is recognized as 64MB.. what can I do ? i tried replacing it with another stick, no good.. I tried putting it in the other slot.. and still no good.. help me out here :\

    look, Windows XP is strong system and it required a strong computer too.

    I don't think that 128 SDRAM is enough for system like that.

    I suggestion you to use for computer like that Windows 98 or something that not required alot of memory from your SDRAM.

    I've now Intel Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz with Windows XP and it still not working too-fast.

    Hope after I get the new Mother-Board and the new CPU it will work fast.

    Anyway, hope you you understood what I said ;)

    1. I knew some one will send such a reply, and by disabeling a lot of winXP features you can save a lot of RAM usage. so please don't recommend me any OS.. just help me solve my problem...

    תנסה לעדכן ביוס בכדי שיזהה את הזכרון כמו שצריך .

    יש לך זכרון דו צדדי או חד צדדי ?

    2. It worked just fine with this same motherboard in the past when i used that computer..

    3. i've never flashed a motherboard.. is it complicated / risky ?

    It's not so hard but it is risky on older motherboards. if you have a power outage in the middle you get stuck with an incomplete BIOS so you can't boot meaning you can't flash it so basiclly the mobo goes to hell.

    new motherboards have backup systems and update from windows gadgets but if it's an AMD 900 I wouldn't count on the mobo having that.

    it's worth a try though, since if it's not a stormy day you shouldn't have a problem with electricity ;D

    p.s: I just felt like writing in english, could be the hour and the fact I only slept 5 hours last night :P

    The mobo is Asus K7M - bought 3 years ago...

    oy man

    you first need to look on the ASUS web site and check if your can download a newer bios version for it if you can i think that you can use this flash windows based program that is pretty simple and good.

    just give it a crack and see.
