Never heard of the program, try it out, if it works it sounds like an easier solution, though it might cost money.

Firmware update will make every program work with all regions, but you have to be careful, you need to make sure you get an update for your drive, and when you update do it carefully, if the computer crashes or something like that and the update doesn't go properly the drive can get ruined.
