Can a reciever identify if a stereo transmission is encoded "prologic" automatically, or is it up to me to set it?

(The question isn't for a specific reciever, I just want to know if that possibility exists)

Hello,

Yes, you always have to select Pro Logic manually. There is nothing electronically distinctive about a Dolby Surround soundtrack that a decoder could use to automatically identify it as different from a regular stereo soundtrack.
