Soundmax doesnt recognise sound devices - win98

hey ive just bought a new computer and im using win98..

this computer is using soundmax sound card which ive never used before

and for some reason i have no sound, when i view perfernces of soundmax

i see no sound devices.. can someone tell me what can the problem be?
