לפי הפרסום ב FUDZILLA הבעייה נעוצה בשימוש בחומרים ברמה ירודה אשר יכולים להתפרק כאשר הם מחוממים ומקוררים ללא הרף - כמו בסביבת מחשב נייד.

במחשבים רגילים הבדלי הטמפרטורה הם פחות חדים ולכן אנשים לא נתקלו בבעיה הזאת באותו נפח בעיות בניידים למרות שהבעייה שקיימת בניידים קיימת גם בשולחניים.

מסתבר ש NVIDIA השתמשה במשך שנים בחומר הלחמה מסוג ירוד. וכמו ש HWZONE מדווח הבעייה קשורה גם ללוחות האם של החברה...בקיצור מישהו שם מסתיר משהו...

That little problem with Nvidia's GPUs seem to be much bigger that first though, as it doesn't just affect the mobile GPUs, as it affects every single GPU over the last few years. However, we need to point out that it's highly unlikely that anyone will have problem with their desktop GPUs because of this problem.

What it boils down to is the solder material between the chip and the packaging being sub-standard. Issues only occur if the GPU is heated up and cooled down repeatedly, much as it would be in a laptop that's trying to keep a fine balance between fan noise and heat. This results in the solder becoming brittle and in the end it cracks and this will case the GPU to fail.

This doesn't happen to the same extent on a desktop graphics card, as the temperature inside a PC is much more stable and the cooling solutions are in general also much better. Despite this, over time, some GPUs might still develop problems, but we have yet to hear about anyone that's had this kind of a problem.

At this stage it's yet unknown if this also affects Nvidia's chipsets, but until we hear otherwise, we'd presume that they're also affected by the same issue, although again, as long as the chipset cooling is sufficient, it's unlikely that there would be any problems.
