"More likely a fault/glitch on Sennheiser's end with their authentication system than anything else. The Black SE's have only been on the market since October 15th of this year and were specifically commissioned by Amazon... very unlikely there's a large amount of fakes already in a month's time, let alone being sold directly by Amazon. The implication that there's fakes suggests that fakes were made in less than a month's time and somehow sneaked into Amazon's warehouses as the real deal... a situation that seems incredibly unlikely. It's more likely that Amazon ordered so many SE's in anticipation of Black Friday that Sennheiser's authentication database hasn't been updated to reflect the SE's already sold. In other words, those that pass authentication have been sitting in Amazon's warehouses while those that fail are from fresh batches that left the assembly line not long ago.

It's also fairly easy to spot a fake. Fakes will have 3 screws instead of 4 screws on each side of the headphone, poor stitching, no chrome on the adapter jack, come with a single 3.5mm cable instead of 6.3mm + 3.5mm adapter, etc...

If you purchased your SE from the Black Friday sale directly from Amazon and it fails online authentication, I would call/contact Sennheiser to verify authenticity before going thru Amazon support."
